Common in people with PCOS is insulin resistance. This is a condition where your body's cells no longer respond to the hormone insulin as they should. Over time, this can cause to high blood sugar levels (hyperinsulinemia) and, if left unmanaged, can lead to prediabetes and type II diabetes.
Myo-inositol, derived from glucose, acts as a messenger for hormones like insulin and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH). Put simply, myo inositol ensures smoother communication between insulin and your cells. This process causes your cells to respond better to insulin or, in other words, increases your cells’ insulin sensitivity*. Once your cells are responding better to insulin it reduces the need for excess production, helping you to avoid hyperinsulinemia.
Why Choose Inositol Over Berberine?
Although Inositol and Berberine both show promise in addressing insulin resistance*, there are some key differences:
- Berberine may be more effective for managing weight and improving body composition*.
- Inositol is pregnancy and breastfeeding-safe, whereas berberine is not.
- Inositol can be taken long-term, whereas berberine requires breaks for sustainable use.
